They
are usually open from Monday to Saturday morning, from 8:30
am to 7:30 pm. The big ones don't close for lunch, while the
small usually close from 1 pm to 5pm. The nearest supermarket
is the "Coop" in Impruneta (Via Ho Chi Min), open
also on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. In Impruneta
and in Tavarnuzze there are two small "Coop" shops.
In Florence there are several food shops and supermarkets
(as "Esselunga", via Pisana, near Ponte della Vittoria
open on Saturdays and also on Sunday mornings, closed on Monday
mornings). In San Casciano there is a "SuperCoop"
supermarket (superstrada to Siena, exit San Casciano and then
follow the signs).

Florence, on Tuesday morning, there is a big, cheap and nice
market along the Parco delle Cascine (the main Park in Florence);
it is just across Ponte della Vittoria. Local markets are in
Impruneta (Saturday morning), in Tavarnuzze (Wednesday morning)
and in Galluzzo every mornings. |

During
summer there are a lot of theater plays, films, exhibitions,
concerts, both in Florence and in nearby villages. Information
on tourist information offices, on newspapers and on specialized

Handicraft |
| |
You
can find a lot of handicraft places in Florence. Leather, straw,
painted paper are the most famous. Impruneta is very famous
all over the world for the Cotto. Many floors of houses are
made by cotto, as well as roofs (also the roof of the Cupola
del Duomo di Firenze).There are many Fornaci where they cook
clay to have pottery, in Impruneta.They make also the Orci that
are very big pots where traditionally olive oil was stored.These
Fornaci are very interesting places to visit (and where to buy
something really fine), and usually people will be very glad
to explain you a tradition that goes back to hundreds of years.
Many of that factories are in Impruneta and on the road between
Impruneta and Tavarnuzze. |

Florence,
but not only ... |
| |
Florence
doesn't need any presentation. The part of Florence, less touristic
that we suggest to visit is the part called Oltrarno. From Porta
Romana, at the end of the road called SS 2 Cassia, to the Arno
is one of the most interesting area. Boboli, Piazza Pitti, S.Spirito,
Il Carmine (visit the church is recommended), Il Cestello, and
the little streets around are beautiful and usually neglected
by the mass tourism. Another nice part of Florence is the one
around Piazza S.Croce. It is a popular zone with beautiful buildings.
Also Certosa di Firenze, near Galluzzo, is beautiful and surely
worth to be visited. Impruneta has a beautiful piazza, with
a basilica and a good museum. There are a lot of places to visit
in a day trip. Siena with Monteriggioni, S.Galgano (on the way
to Grosseto); S.Gimignano; Volterra; Cortona near Arezzo. The
Chianti, the region of the Gallo Nero wine production. Along
the way called Chiantigiana Greve, Panzano, S.Leonino, Castellina,
all of them are worth to be visited. From S.Casciano to Panzano
Campoli, Badia a Passignano, Montefioralle. Villa Demidoff on
the national road to Bologna (from Florence take via Bolognese
for 10 Km to Pratolino), usually open during the week ends.
S.Quirico, Pienza, Radicofani, Bagno Vignoni (thermal place,
is possible to have a bath in thermal waters), Montepulciano,
Monte Oliveto Maggiore, Sant'Antimo, Montalcino. At a bit longer
distance, on the way to Roma (SS 2 Cassia). South of Siena,
Val d'Orcia, Civita di Bagnoregio, Viterbo, Bolsena, Orvieto.
The Versilia sea is at 1 hour drive from Florence. Interesting
is Forte dei Marmi, near Lucca. Uccellina National Park, Castiglion
della Pescaia, Punta Ala, Monte Argentario near Grosseto. Marina
di Castagneto and Baratti near Livorno (take the "strada a grande
comunicazione S.G.C." to Livorno, then the motorway to Rosignano
and then again the "Aurelia" national road to Donoratico). There
are very nice beaches. The beautiful Tuscan isles like Elba
(ferry from Piombino every hour) or Giglio (ferry from Porto
Santo Stefano). Lucca, Pistoia, Pisa, Arezzo, all at 1 hour
maximum from Florence. An interesting trip is to the national
park of "foreste casentinesi" (one hour and a half from Florence,
where Stia and its ponds on Arno river are). It is a forested
area with beautiful landscapes and nice walks. |
